About Superintendent Chad Janzen
Welcome to the Rock Valley Community School District. At Rock Valley we believe in Educating Today's Student for Tomorrow. To accomplish this goal we need to Connect Every Child to the World. Each child grades 1-12 is equipped with a laptop or an IPad. Students need to be connected at an early age to learn how to exist responsibly in an ever-changing online world. Through interactions with their world, students are challenged with a rigorous curriculum. It is our responsibility to prepare them for a world and jobs that do not yet exist.
I graduated from Butterfield-Odin High School in 1992. I attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN and finished my BA in History & Secondary Education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. I began my teaching career at Los Angeles Lutheran Jr./Sr. High School. I taught for three years and was principal for three years. During that time I completed my Master's Degree in Educational Administration at California State University, Northridge. My wife and I moved back to South Dakota in 2003 where I taught just north of Sioux Falls in Baltic, SD for three years. I then returned to an administrative role in Canistota, SD in the fall of 2007. I was the 7-12 principal for two years, superintendent/9-12 principal for one year, and superintendent/elementary principal for two years. I have been happy to serve the Rock Valley Community School District since the 2011-2012 school year.
My wife, Lou Ann, currently works part-time at Hegg Memorial as an occupational health nurse. We have two boys. Evan and Dylan.
